Agartala, December 20, 2021 : The Union Minister of State (MoS) for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik on Sunday chaired a crucial meeting to assess the progress work in resettlement of Bru Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Tripura.

The union minister was accompanied by Tripura’s chief Secretary Kumar Alok, royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and others at Civil Secretariat here in Agartala city on Sunday.

Speaking with Northeast Today, Bhoumik said “The deadline set to complete resettlement process is March 2022”.

She said “A roadmap has been chalked out to complete the task on time and the concerned District Magistrates were asked to visit the respective areas which were identified for resettlement process”.

After assessing the progress on ground, MoS is sure that the land identification procedure will be completed by the end of this month.

The officials present in the meeting assured that troubles arising in the implementation level shall be addressed within the given time.

Bhoumik also said that the royal scion Debbarman representing TTAADC administration gave assurance of extending all required support to complete the process of resettlement at the earliest.

Recently, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb returned to the state getting approval from the Union Home minister Amit Shah to include 6,959 Bru families under Antyodaya Anna Yojana by the state government.

Its worthy to mention here that a quadripartite pact signed among the government of India, governments of Tripura and Mizoram and representatives from the Bru families in January 2020 for resettlement of 4,900 families comprising about 32,000 people across five districts of Tripura.

The central government gave a special package of Rs 600 crore to the Tripura government for their resettlement.
