In an attempt to promote the protection of journalistic rights with a view to strengthen the respect for press freedom, the Tangkhul media professionals working across Manipur, Northeast and other states of the country on November 20 collaboratively resolved to establish ‘Tangkhul Media & Journalists Forum’ (TMJF).
According to a press release issued today by the forum, in the first general meeting of this forum held on November 20, Valleyrose Hungyo, Ngathingkhui Jagoi, Sothing Shimray were unanimously elected as three members of the TMJF Advisory Board.
“The number of Tangkhuls in print, television, electronic and digital news media over the past decade has grown substantially. At the same time, the mounting challenges on journalists in the country by state and non-state actors, the absence of a body to cater to the needs in times of hardship; and to uplift and empower individuals in the profession, prompted the establishment of TMJF.” – the press release further reads.
In order to effectively initiate its responsibility, Khathing Ronrei was elected as the first President of TMJF.
Meanwhile, Phungchamnao Ranreiphi Kharei and Skyrim Zimik has been elected as its General Secretary & Secretary respectively. Mingyashin Shaiza and Jenny Thingshung were elected as Executive members for the tenure 2021-23.
“TMJF is an inclusive forum for the welfare of all Tangkhul journalists, professionals in the media fraternity both in the private and public sector in India.” – adds the release.
