Continuing to criticize the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging his utter ignorance on demands laid-down by farmers, the Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday asserted that PM Modi was “arrogant” when the Governor met him for discussing about the farmer protests, and that he ended up having an argument with him.

Addressing a social function at Dadri in Haryana, Malik stated that “When I went to meet the Prime Minister to discuss the farmer issue, I ended up fighting with him within five minutes. He was very arrogant. When I told him that 500 of our own (farmers) had died… he said, ‘Did they die for me?’ I told him yes, since you are the king. I ended up having an argument with him. He told me to meet Amit Shah and I did.”

Responding to a query asked about centre’s decision to repeal the farm laws and the farmer’s pending demands, Malik asserted that “What more could the PM have said other than what he said… We (farmers) should get decisions done in our favour. We should take their help to get legal guarantee for MSP instead of doing something that spoils everything.”

“Some issues are still pending. For instance, there are cases (against farmers)… the government needs to show honesty on that count and withdraw the cases. Similarly, legal MSP will have to be done.”

Meanwhile, the Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge shared a video of the statement on Twitter. “Meghalaya’s Governor Sri Satya Pal Malik is on record saying PM was ‘arrogant’ on the issue of Farmers & HM Amit Shah called the PM as ‘mad’. Constitutional authorities speaking about each other with such contempt! Narendra Modiji is this true?” – he wrote on Twitter.

The Governor has been condemning the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, especially on the farmers’ issue, and has often reiterated that he is not scared of being asked to step down from his post. Recently, he urged cultivators to get an assurance on MSP demands, and form a committee who will address their issues. He also advised the farmers to not “stretch the protest unnecessarily”.

Its pertinent to note that recently PM Modi announced the withdrawal of the laws, a decision which was passed during the Parliament Winter Session.
