In an attempt to support individuals lead towards a better future, by providing effective physical control and superior stability, the Lunglei Battalion of Assam Rifles on Wednesday conducted a Artificial Limb Replacement camp at Siaha town, Mizoram.
Considered as a first-of-its-kind initiative across Northeast, the main aim of conducting this camp is to provide an opportunity for differently-abled persons to lead a normal life without any restrains and burden of their injury/ailment.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Brigadier Digvijay Singh, SM attended the event as its Chief Guest during the event.
Besides, the Additional DC, Additional SP and district administration officials and Ex-servicemen of Siaha district also attended the event.
A team of one doctor and two technicians from a Rajasthan-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Jaipur Foot fitted artificial limbs to the needy and handicapped.
The first phase of this camp was conducted on December 10, 2021, wherein initial checkup, cast making and measurement of limbs were done for the local populace residing along far-flung hamlets of Siaha, Lawngtlai & Lunglei.
This initiative undertaken by Assam Rifles encouraged the physically-abled citizens to emerge as a symbol of strength and courage in fighting social stigmas.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles is also in the process of liasoning with civil authorities for obtaining a disability certificate to the individuals who have undergone limb replacement.
