The Meghalaya Chief Minister – Conrad Sangma on Tuesday announced that cash awards for ‘Param Vir Chakra awardees’ will be enhanced from Rs 1 Lakhs to Rs 5 Lakhs. While, theMeghalaya Government have also decided to raise the ex-gratia amount to the next-of-kin of martyrs & specially-abled soldiers from Rs 15 Lakhs to Rs 20 Lakhs.
This was announced by Sangma during the Meghalaya State Ex-Servicemen Rally held at Assam Regimental Centre at Happy Valley in Shillong.
However, the state government will also enhance the Annuity to Award winner (PVC) from Rs 1,000/- per month to Rs 10,000/- per month.
Taking to Twitter, Sangma wrote “State Govt. will enhance the Cash Award for Param Vir Chakra awardees from the existing ₹1 Lakh to ₹5 Lakhs. We have also decided to enhance the Annuity to Award winner (PVC) from ₹1,000/- per month to ₹10,000/- per month.”

Meanwhile, the state government have also sanctioned an ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 Lakhs to the next-of-kin of (L) Havildar Hampiar R Marak of the 59 Medium Regiment, a resident of Mendipathar, who died in the line of duty along the LoC in Jammu & Kashmir.

Taking to Twitter, CM Sangma also announced that Rs 4 Crores has also been sanctioned for the Sainik Guest House in Shillong which will accommodate the office of the Director of Sainik Board.

Addressing the gathering, CM Sangma asserted that ex-servicemen rally is a significant platform that emphasizes on renewing the bond between serving and retired personnel, and addressing grievances for the welfare of ex-servicemen.
He also lauded the contribution of the veterans and the serving soldiers of Meghalaya and the North-East, towards the security and prosperity of the country.
