Meghalaya CM Calls-On GoM; Discusses Legal Provisions Related With Online Gaming, Casinos

The Meghalaya Chief Minister – Conrad Sangma today convened a crucial meeting with the Group of Ministers (GoMs) constituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to look into matters related to the GST regime covering online gambling, race courses and casinos.

The eight-member group, led by chief minister Conrad Sangma, examined the existing legal provisions and court orders on related matters.

“We have been able to make significant progress on rate concerns, valuation issues on which the rate should be applied, and certain aspects of online gaming were thoroughly reviewed. There are a few more technical details to go over.” – mentioned Sangma.

It looked after the proposals for possible adjustments to existing laws in order to adopt the new valuing procedures that will apply to casinos, racetracks, and online gaming.

The other members of the group include – Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Patel, Goa Minister for Panchayat Raj Mauvin Godinho, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Ragan, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna and Telangana Finance Minister Thanneeru Harish Rao.

Taking to Twitter, the Meghalaya CM wrote “Chaired a meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on casinos, race courses & online gaming. Thank all the Hon’ble Members for their submissions and their views. We look forward to finalising our discussions and submit our report soon.”
