Sikkim has been engulfed with scare of probable swine flu infections; following reports pig deaths along the Mangshila Tibuk area of North Sikkim.
These fresh cases have prompted the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department of Sikkim to undertake immediate steps for preventing the spread of suspected swine flu.
In order to prevent further outbreak, the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department of Sikkim has put a moratorium on pork sale, slaughter, purchase, and transportation till further notice.
Its worthy to note that the state’s piggery sector is already under strain, due to the deadly African Swine Fever (ASF) – a highly contagious haemorrhagic illness of domestic and wild pigs, which has been intermittent along the Northeastern Indian regions.
