Agartala, June 29, 2022 : In order to ensure the health protection of pregnant women and unborn children, the Director of National Health Mission (NHM), Tripura – Dr Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal on Wednesday said that the state-wide Adarsha Matritva Abhiyan will be launched from July 1 next and continue till July 14 next.
In the fiscal year 2022-23, the number of women in the state was 51,060. In the first phase, Adarsha Matritva Abhiyan- medical services will be provided to about 29,937 pregnant women across the state, said Dr Jaiswal while speaking to media personnel at NHM, Tripura office premises here in Agartala city on Wednesday morning.
“During the first 5 days of the campaign, Asha workers will visit each and every house and enrol the names of couples with problems and pregnant women in the area. In addition, the initial registration of the pregnant woman at the sub-center will be ensured. Pre-initial examination and TD vaccination of all pregnant women will be ensured during the campaign. A separate list of adolescent couples will be prepared at the sub-health center level. It would be advisable to adopt all modern methods of family planning to prevent adolescent pregnancies.” – he said.
Dr Jaiswal further added that “there will be a Community Health Officer, ANM, to take care of the health of each pregnant woman. Asha workers and Anganwari workers will monitor the health of pregnant women. In case of any emergency, the local people’s representatives will also be by the side of the pregnant women and will encourage the pregnant women for institutional delivery.”
Addressing the mediapersons, Dr Jaiswal noted that “the following services will be guaranteed free of charge during this campaign: A health check-up of every pregnant woman will be ensured by an experienced doctor and those pregnant women who are identified as high risk will be given extra care at a later time. All types of prenatal tests will be performed on each pregnant woman. Ultrasonography will also be done if necessary. Each pregnant woman will be given tablets of iron folic acid and calcium. Each pregnant woman will be enrolled to receive financial assistance through various government schemes. Pregnant women belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and General as well as BPL category would be given Rs 700 in rural areas and Rs 600 in urban areas for institutional deliveries, and Rs 500 in home deliveries.”
“Rs 5,000 is given in different installments for the first child through ‘Pradhan Mantri Matribandana Yojana’. ‘Chief Minister’s Maternal Nutrition Gift’ – through this scheme of the state government, a pregnant woman is given Rs 500 for examination by each prenatal doctor four times. Free delivery is ensured through the ‘Maternal and Child Protection Scheme’. Even Cesarean delivery is made free. Under this scheme, vehicles are rented from home to hospital during delivery, from one hospital to another hospital if necessary and from hospital to home after delivery.” – he further added.
