The Senator Dean Smith of Australia, who is currently on an official-tour to the northeastern state of Mizoram today called on the Governor – Hari Babu Kambhampati at the Raj Bhavan this evening.
Governor greeted his distinguished visitor and informed him of several significant projects being carried out in Mizoram. He also expressed his delight in witnessing the growing partnership between the two countries in trade and other areas.
They discussed about the Myanmar refugee issue and how the state government handled the situation.
Besides, the Governor apprised his visitor about the statistics on how the state’s civil societies, have extended helping hands to the Myanmar refugees on humanitarian grounds.
Senator Smith also apprised the Governor that India-Australia relation has “become stronger than ever”.
He expressed the views of his government on the Chin refugee issue; and shared the condition of the Chin community in Australia and how the Australian Government is observing the situation in Myanmar, following the military coup.
