“Akasa Air” Begins Flight Services In Tripura; Connecting Bangalore To Agartala Via Guwahati

Agartala, October 21, 2022 : The flight services of a private airline “Akasa Air” has been officially inaugurated at the premises of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport here in Agartala city on Friday by Tripura’s Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister Dr Saha was accompanied by the Transport minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Airport’s Director KC Meena and CMO of “Akasa Air” Belson Coutinho.

The 189-seater aircraft of “Akasa Air” will depart daily from Bangalore to Agartala via Guwahati and will fly directly to Bangalore from Agartala.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Saha said that the students of the state and their guardians, common passengers and businessmen will be greatly benefited due to the joining of “Akasa Air” with the state’s air services. The Chief Minister congratulated the “Akasa Air” authority for this initiative.

He said that that the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport was earlier known as Shingerbill Airport. At that time, there was not much security at the airport. But currently there has been a major change in the state’s air services and this has been possible only because of the sincere efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Chief Minister said that after the formation of the central government in 2014 under the leadership of the current Prime Minister of the country, there has been a great development in the railway, road and air services in the North Eastern region including Tripura. But in the past the state was neglected in terms of air communication. At present, the people of the state are benefiting from the improvement of the air communication system in the state. People of the state can now directly reach the major cities of the country quickly, he added.

The Chief Minister requested the “Akasa Air” authorities to keep the air fare within reach for the benefit of the people of the state.

On the occasion, Transport Minister Singha Roy said that there has been a lot of improvement in the air communication system in the state. Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport now has 20 flights per day. He said that the state is progressing in the field of tourism. Every day many tourists from the country and abroad are coming to the state. In this regard, Asha Air started their services at the right time. The Transport Minister requested the authorities of “Akasa Air” to launch one more flight on Agartala-Delhi route keeping in view the demand of air passengers.

Belson Coutinho, CMO of Asha Air delivered the welcome address on the occasion. The Chief Minister handed over the boarding pass to Pankaj Dey, the passenger of Asha Air’s first flight.
