The Indian Army mountaineering team from the Black Cat Division of Trishakti Corps successfully summited Mt Tinchenkhang (6010 M) on October 15, 2022.
Situated in Gyalshing District, Mt Tinchenkhang is a peak recognized by the Sikkim Government for technical climbing since 1990.
Trishakti Corps Alpine Climbing expedition team commenced their 20-day challenging endeavor with a flag-off ceremony, wherein, Lt Gen Tarun Kumar Aich, AVSM, GOC Trishakti Corps, handed over the expedition Ice Axe to the team leader on October 1.
The team comprised one officer, one Junior Commissioned officer, and 13 other ranks. The expedition team reached Yuksom and established Camps at Tshoka, Dzongri, Thangsing, and Lamuney on October 3.
Besides, the expedition team successfully negotiated an arduous 300-meter vertical ice wall of a ninety-degree gradient through Alpine Climbing Technique.
After completion, the expedition team embarked upon yet another adventure and traversed the famous Goechala trek on October 16. The team also collected and carried back the waste found along the Goechala Trek.
The team was flagged in on October 21, 2022 by Major General Gambhir Singh, AVSM, GOC Black Cat Division in Gangtok, wherein the team handed over the Ice Axe to the General Officer Commanding.
“Such expeditions help instill camaraderie and confidence amongst the troops to embark on small team operations and showcase the spirit of adventure in the Indian Army,” – informed a press release.
