Commemorating the ’76th Infantry Day’, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) – General Anil Chauhan, on Thursday flagged in the ‘Infantry Day Bike Rally 2022’ at National War Memorial (NWM) in New Delhi.
The bike rallies commenced from four cardinal directions – Udhampur (J&K), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Wellington (TN) & Shillong (Meghalaya) to commemorate the 76th year of Srinagar landings.
The Biker groups were spearheaded by the Assam Regiment from Shillong, the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment from Ahmedabad, Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment from Udhampur and the Madras Regiment from Wellington. It covered a cumulative journey of 8000 km to showcase the ‘Esprit-de-Corps’ of the Infantry. Each group consisting of ten bikers aimed to showcase the spirit and adventure of Infantrymen.
The “Bayonet Bikers” interacted with Veer Naris, veterans, NCC cadets, students, and the local populace en route to pay tribute to the valor and sacrifices of the Infantry soldiers and their families.

On the occasion, Gen Anil Chauhan, CDS, Lt Gen BS Raju, VCOAS, Director General Infantry, Colonel of the Regiments, Senior Officers & Veterans of Infantry laid wreaths at the NWM to honor the Bravehearts for their supreme sacrifice.
Besides, three decorated veterans, namely Lt Col Ram Singh Saharan Kirti Chakra (Retd), Sub Maj & Honorary Capt Yogendra Singh Yadav Param Vir Chakra (Retd), and Sep Sardar Singh Vir Chakra (Retd), laid wreaths on behalf of veterans of the Infantry.
The Director General of Infantry appealed to the unit to dedicate themselves to the core value of bravery, sacrifice, selfless devotion to duty and professionalism, and to remain indomitable in their resolve to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the Nation.
It is worth noting that the ’76th Infantry Day’ commemorated on October 27 aims to mark the contributions of the Infantry – the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army.
On this day in 1947, the Infantrymen from the Indian Army, led by 1 SIKH, landed at Srinagar Airfield to save Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) from the ruthless and treacherous Pakistani invasion.
Since time immemorial, the Indian Army’s versatile ‘Infantry’ has displayed fortitude, indomitable resoluteness, and dogged determination throughout its chequered history.
