The Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) slammed the Chief Minister – Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), alleging failure to acknowledge and lay the constant demands for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Sikkim before the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Citing the permit as a significant tool to safeguard Sikkim and enhance border security, the HSP noted that “our Chief Minister, Mr. Prem Singh Tamang is on the Delhi tour. We have seen his images with different union ministers but he continues to disappoint Sikkim. We have learned from the Govt. of Sikkim press release that Mr. Golay participated in a Chintan Shivir chaired by the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah at Surajkund. This was again an opportunity missed to raise the issues of Sikkim and demand what is needed for the welfare of Sikkim and its people.”

According to a press release issued by the HSP, “the CM talked about border security, drugs, crime, etc., but he failed to demand the most important tool to safeguard Sikkim and border security which is the 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿-𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁 (𝗜𝗟𝗣). It has been highlighted time and again by several stakeholders of Sikkim that the ILP is a must for Sikkim. In Hamro Sikkim Party’s 𝗝𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗱, the resolution to implement ILP was unanimously passed. Mr. 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗮, president of the Hamro Sikkim Party had also written a letter & the resolution passed in the Jan Sansad to Mr. Tamang, requesting him to convene an urgent sitting of the legislative assembly and pass an official demand to the Central Government for instituting the ILP. Bhaichung Bhutia had also given a 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗿 to implement ILP in Sikkim.”

“The demand for implementing an ILP is a united demand not just from Hamro Sikkim Party, but also has large support from our people, several political parties, and civil society organisations. Why does Mr. Tamang continue to turn a deaf ear to our demands? Why has he failed to acknowledge the urgency of an ILP? Mr. CM failed to raise the ILP issue when Mr. Amit Shah visited Sikkim, and he failed to raise the issue once again at the Chintan Shivir. He is neither exhibiting his role as a responsive leader nor as an able representative of our state at the national level,” – the release further reads.

The release further added that “The Jan Sansad has spoken, the Sikkimese have spoken and even his alliance partner the BJP has spoken. It is only Mr. Tamang’s arrogance and incapacity that will form a difficult barrier for the ILP to be implemented in Sikkim. Sikkim needs a better leader with stronger resolve and compassion to listen to the demands of the people. Hamro Sikkim Party will continue to champion our demand and will not rest till we have realised our aim of an ILP in Sikkim.”
