Political Violence: Tripura Human Rights Commission Seek Report From DGP Over Inactive Role Of Police In Initiating Action

Agartala, November 02, 2022: Tripura Human Rights Commission has registered a complaint regarding an attack on CPIM leaders or supporters at Gangachara under Udaipur sub-division in Gomati district on October 15 last and found inactiveness of police in initiating action.

Accordingly, Chairman of the THRC retired Justice Swapan Chandra Das on October 17 last sought a report from the Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan asking explanation in this regard.

A complaint against alleged ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-backed miscreants and inactive role of police has been lodged with the Tripura Human Rights Commission which was revealed to the public on Wednesday.

The order sheet of the complaint 42 of 2022 in THRC on October 17 last stated “Received a complaint through e-mail sent by one Dipak Kumar which is addressed to the DGP, Tripura as well as THRC. It is inter alia alleged in the complaint that on 15.10.2022 a group of BJP miscreants attacked the houses of Jiban Sharma and Bhanu Patwari both CPIM leader/supporters at Gangachara and damaged their houses. Earlier also their houses were attacked by the BJP miscreants, Kakraban Police Station as well as SP, Gomati did not show any activeness to take any action.”

“There is no mention as to whether any police case has been filed or not. The complainants detailed address and identity as well as proper address of the alleged victims has also not been given in the complaint” – the order stated.

“So far the allegations made in the complaint, it is a matter of police case to be instituted in the particular Police Station and in case human rights are violated by Police or any other public servant, then only jurisdiction of commission will appear to initiate action. However, the commission thought it appropriate to seek a report from DGP, Tripura”, the order sheet reads.

The undersigned chairman of the commission, retired Justice SC Das sent a copy of the complaint along with a copy of this order to DGP, Tripura to submit a report to the commission within 4 weeks. The matter will be again considered on November 25 next.
