Tripura: Minister – Sushanta Chowdhury Reviews “Jal Jeevan Mission”; 4.7 Lakh Out Of 7.42 Lakh Residences Covered Under Scheme

Agartala, November 17, 2022: So far, 4 lakh 6 thousand 875 houses have been provided drinking water connection out of 7 lakh 41 thousand 945 houses in Tripura under “Jal Jeevan Mission” i.e. about 55 percent of the houses have already been connected with potable water.

Tripura’s Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) minister Sushanta Chowdhury convened a review meeting on “Jal Jeevan Mission” in presence of DWS department’s Secretary Abhishek Singh, Chief Engineer Shyamlal Bhowmik, Director Rajib Majumder along with supervisors, executive and assistant engineer of various circles and divisions and representatives of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

Speaking in the meeting, DWS minister Chowdhury said that the development of the state will accelerate only if the administration and people work together.

“To deliver purified drinking water to every household across the state, the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department should work on a mission mode”, said the minister. He directed the administrative officials that the drinking water connections should be delivered to almost all families by the month of December next.

In the meeting, he further directed all concerned officials to complete the tender process of the work quickly.

The officials claimed that since the launch of “Jal Jeevan Mission”, 616 deep tube wells, 2,723 small bore deep tube wells, 61 innovative water supply schemes, 3 surface water treatment plants and 68 iron removal plants have been installed. So far, 3,571 schools and 5,009 Anganwadi Kendras in the state have been provided tap water connections while drinking water has been delivered through tap to every house in 47 villages throughout the state, the official added.
