Guwahati, August 07, 2023: In a significant turn of events, the Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) has decided to withdraw its support from the Manipur government led by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
The decision comes after three months of escalating violence in the region, which has taken a toll on the lives of over 150 individuals, leaving thousands displaced and seeking refuge in relief camps.
The KPA, represented by two MLAs, formally conveyed its stance to the Governor of Manipur through a letter. In the letter, the party cited careful consideration of the prevailing conflagration as the reason behind their decision. They asserted that continuing their support for the incumbent government is no longer fruitful, and hence, they are officially withdrawing their backing. The withdrawal renders any previous support extended to the Manipur government null and void, according to the Kuki People’s Alliance.
The violence that has gripped Manipur over the last three months has resulted in a staggering loss of lives, creating a dire humanitarian situation. With thousands of individuals seeking safety in relief camps, the situation remains critical and demanding of immediate attention.
The withdrawal of support from the KPA poses a significant challenge for the N. Biren Singh government, and its impact on the political landscape in Manipur is yet to unfold. The people of Manipur hope for a resolution to the violence and a return to stability and peace in the region.
