Agartala, February 08, 2024: Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday emphasized the importance for farmers to embrace new technologies and practices to increase vegetable production and bolster their economic gains.

Unveiling the foundation stone of a new building for the Teliamura Agricultural Produce Market, equipped with modern facilities which is set to be constructed soon, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister Nath expressed his hope that the new building will play a vital role in improving the welfare and income of the farmers in the coming days.

He said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a vision to double the income of farmers by 2022, and for that, various facilities and schemes are being implemented by the central and state governments. He said that agriculture is the backbone of the country’s economy, and the prosperity of the farmers is essential for the development of the nation.

He urged the farmers to adopt new technologies and practices, and to take advantage of the various initiatives launched by the government to enhance their productivity and profitability. He also thanked the Teliamura Agri Produce Market Committee and the Teliamura Merchant Association for their cooperation and support in the construction of the new building.

Speaking at the event, TLA’s Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy said that the new building will fulfill the long-term demands of the farmers and traders of Teliamura sub-division, who have been facing various challenges due to the lack of adequate infrastructure and amenities at the existing market. She said that the new building will be a multi-dimensional one, with provisions for cold storage, grading, packaging, processing, and marketing of agricultural produce. She added that the new building will not only benefit the farmers, but also enhance the growth and beauty of Teliamura city.

The foundation stone laying ceremony, which took place at around 4 pm at the market premises, was attended by several dignitaries, Saradindu Das, the Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department, Dipak Kumar Das, the Director of Agricultural Marketing, Santosh Das, the Secretary of Teliamura Agri-Produce Market Committee, Madhusudan Roy, the Secretary of Teliamura Merchant Association and Vice-Chairman of Teliamura Municipal Council, Krishnapada Das, the President of Teliamura Merchant Association, and other officials and representatives of the agriculture sector.
