The second edition of the Meghalaya Pineapple Fest 2024 concluded at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, on Sunday. The festival was a huge success, showcasing the state’s agricultural prowess and cultural richness.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the festival, interacting with farmers and entrepreneurs. He highlighted the government’s initiatives to boost the pineapple industry, including the export of 4.36 MT of pineapples to Lulu Group Abu Dhabi and 300 MT to EU countries.
The festival also saw the establishment of 11 Collective Marketing Centres (CMC) for fresh pineapple trading, 338 Integrated Village Cooperative Societies (IVCS), and 28 Organic Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Six processing units with a capacity of 1160MT/year were also set up.
The government provided interest-free working capital loans totaling Rs. 78.82 Lakhs to farmer collectives. The festival also explored Community Public Private Partnerships (CPPP) for holistic interventions.
The cultural extravaganza included live performances by Meghalaya Grassroot Music Project (MGMP) artistes. A total of 6.5 tonnes of organically grown sweet pineapples were sold during the festival.
The Meghalaya Pineapple Fest 2024 has positioned the state as a major player in the pineapple industry, showcasing its agricultural excellence and cultural richness to the world.
