Agartala, August 19, 2024: The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rains in Tripura over the next two days, significantly impacting daily life across the state. Since Monday morning, continuous downpours have caused widespread disruption.
According to the latest report from the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall recorded so far is 73.2 mm at Nabunbazar in North Tripura district, while the lowest is 3.2 mm.
In light of the severe weather conditions, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Sepahijala and South Tripura districts, warning of thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for all districts in the state for the same period.
“The sky has been overcast since morning, and the persistent rains have severely affected public life,” said a spokesperson from the Meteorological Department. “Today’s maximum temperature was recorded at 30 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius, which is close to normal for this time of year.”
Rainfall data from various locations across the state highlights the extent of the downpour. In Agartala, 9.9 mm of rain has been recorded so far on Monday. Other notable figures include 5 mm in AD Nagar, 8 mm in Bodhjungnagar, 12 mm at the DM office, and 8 mm at the Secretariat in West Tripura district. In Sepahijala district, Sonamura recorded 36 mm, Bishramganj 17.4 mm, Gajaria 22 mm, and Mohanbogh 41 mm.
In Khowai district, 3.4 mm of rain was recorded, while Teliamura saw 15 mm. Udaipur in Gomati district recorded 14.2 mm, Amarpur 30.2 mm and Karbook 12 mm. South Tripura district experienced significant rainfall with Belonia recording 54.2 mm, Sabroom 59 mm, and Bagafa 56.8 mm. In North Tripura district, Panisagar recorded 18 mm, Kanchanpur 11 mm, Kadamtala 24 mm, and Nabunbazar 73.2 mm. Unakoti district saw Kumarghat recording 55 mm and Kailashahar 11 mm. In Dhalai district, Gandacherra recorded 4.6 mm, Kamalpur 11 mm and Manughat 4.2 mm.
The heavy rains have caused waterlogging in several areas, disrupting transportation and daily activities. Authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary,” the spokesperson added. “Residents are advised to stay informed and follow the guidelines issued by the authorities.”
As the state braces for more rain, the focus remains on ensuring public safety and minimizing disruption to daily life.
