Assam: Japanese Encephalitis And Malaria Claim 32 Lives In June And July

Guwahati, August 26: The Health and Family Welfare Department has reported a surge in vector-borne diseases in Assam, with 1,100 cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE), malaria, and dengue recorded in June and July, resulting in 32 fatalities.

According to department statistics, 424 cases of JE were reported, with 48 cases in June and 376 in July. The disease claimed one life in June and 28 in July.

Malaria cases stood at 166 in June and 187 in July, resulting in three fatalities in June. Dengue saw 80 cases in June and 214 in July, with no reported deaths.

In response to the situation, the Assam Health Department has intensified measures to curb the spread of these diseases, including extensive fogging, targeted larvicidal spraying, and the release of larvivorous fish in drains.
