Imphal, Sept 11: Congress MP A Bimol Akoijam from Inner Manipur has written to Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing deep anguish over the “unprecedented violent crisis” in Manipur and calling for immediate “corrective measures” to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
In his letter, Akoijam urged Shah to ensure that security forces act decisively and judiciously to rein in the violence, which has resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and rendered over 60,000 people homeless.
The MP also demanded a thorough investigation into allegations of involvement by illegal immigrants, foreign elements, and illicit drug mafia in the present crisis, as well as a review of existing policies and measures with armed groups to prevent violence and illegal activities.
Akoijam’s remarks come amid an escalation of violence in Manipur, with the state government suspending internet services in five valley districts and imposing prohibitory orders in three districts.
