The Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Manipur (KCAM), has issued a strong condemnation of a recent directive from the Manipur State Government’s Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills, which requires detailed documentation of Kuki-Zo villages and hills dating back to 1964. KCAM has labeled the order as highly insensitive, especially in light of ongoing violence that has displaced over 40,000 Kuki-Zo people, with many villages burned and uprooted during the current crisis.

KCAM expressed deep concern over what it sees as systemic discrimination against the Kuki-Zo community. The association criticized the timing of the directive, which they believe is aimed at undermining Kuki-Zo chieftainship and facilitating encroachment on their ancestral lands. The association also accused radicalized Meitei groups of posing existential threats to the Kuki-Zo people.

In response to the government’s order, KCAM resolved that no Kuki-Zo chief should comply with the documentation demand. Reaffirming their pursuit of a Separate Administration with Union Territory status, the association called on the Kuki-Zo community to unite in defiance of the government’s actions.
