At least 80 people fell ill after consuming a chana mixture during a football match at Chenanggre Stadium in A’dokgre, North Garo Hills, Meghalaya. The incident occurred when attendees snacked on the contaminated mixture, prompting immediate medical attention.
The affected individuals were swiftly transported to A’dokgre Primary Health Centre (PHC) for treatment. Six critically ill patients were transferred to hospitals in Guwahati and Goalpara for further care. Fortunately, medical updates confirm that all patients are now out of danger.
In response to the incident, food samples have been sent to a laboratory in Shillong for testing. The district administration awaits the inquiry report and lab results to determine the next course of action. The North Garo Hills district administration has launched an investigation to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar food poisoning case in Assam’s Gogamukh, where over 100 people fell ill after consuming prasad at a religious event. The affected individuals experienced severe symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and loss of consciousness. A medical team provided on-site treatment.
