Tensions are escalating in Assam’s Samaguri constituency as violent clashes between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress intensify ahead of the by-polls. The Samaguri constituency in Nagaon district has become a flashpoint of escalating tensions and violence, with multiple party workers sustaining injuries since the election schedule was announced last month.

A tragic incident occurred when a BJP worker, Bipul Saikia, succumbed to injuries following alleged pre-poll violence in Assam’s Nagaon district. The incident took place during clashes between BJP and Congress supporters at a rally in the Kawoimari area under Samaguri constituency, resulting in multiple injuries, including among journalists.

Further violence erupted during a bypoll nomination in Assam, injuring journalists. Congress candidate Tanzil Hussain faced opposition from BJP supporters while filing for the Samaguri assembly seat. Police managed to control the situation, but complaints were filed against BJP workers for the alleged attack.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused Congress supporters of killing BJP worker Bipul Saikia, and a police complaint has been filed against an individual allegedly responsible. The rising tensions and violence ahead of the November by-elections have raised concerns about the safety and security of party workers and voters.
