Manipur Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan on Tuesday issued warning to government doctors involved in private practice, stating that legal action would be taken against violators. His announcement was made during the 13th foundation day celebrations of the College of Nursing, Lamphelpat, and the oath-taking ceremony for the 2024-2025 1st Semester Batch of BSc Nursing students at the college’s Multipurpose Hall.

Speaking as the chief guest, Minister Ranjan underscored the government’s dedication to strengthening the healthcare sector and tackling existing challenges. A key concern he raised was government doctors practicing in private clinics and firms, an issue that compromises public healthcare services.

“Government doctors must focus on serving the public through government institutions. Any doctor found engaging in private practice will face legal action,” Ranjan stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining professionalism and ethical standards.

Dr. Ranjan also inspired junior nursing students to seek guidance from their senior colleagues and promised that the government would address any grievances within the nursing community. “The government is committed to ensuring that the nursing community is well-supported, and we will work to resolve any issues they face,” he added, recognizing the dedication and invaluable contribution of nurses, especially during crises.

The event also attended by Dr. N Surbala Devi, Director of Health Services, Dr. A Jamuna Devi, Principal of the College of Nursing, and Dr. Chambow Golmei, Registrar of the Manipur Nursing Council. The ceremony began with a floral tribute to Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing.
