Guwahati, Nov 18: Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organization based in Assam, launched its new outreach initiative, WeForNature, on Sunday. The programme was introduced with a birdwatching event held at Garbhanga Reserve Forest in Guwahati, in partnership with the Kamrup East Division of the Assam Forest Department. The aim of the programme is to promote environmental stewardship and improve human welfare by engaging communities in sustainable conservation activities.

The WeForNature initiative seeks to raise awareness about environmental sustainability and foster a culture of conservation through education and public participation. Planned activities under the programme include nature walks, eco-talks, conservation discussions, and nature photography events, all designed to engage individuals in protecting the environment.

The inaugural birdwatching event saw 27 nature enthusiasts, including experienced birders from across the country, who were joined by nine forest officials, including Rosy Bora, Range Officer of Rani Range. The event was led by expert birders such as Udayan Borthakur, Pranjal Mahananda, Devika Rani, and Partha Pratim Das.

Pranab Goswami, organizing officer at Aaranyak, played a key role in coordinating the event. Udayan Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Organizing Secretary of Aaranyak, highlighted that the programme is designed to connect people with nature and build a network of environmentally-conscious individuals dedicated to sustainable living.

Looking ahead, Aaranyak plans to organize a series of events under the WeForNature initiative, collaborating with local and national organizations to further its mission of environmental conservation and human welfare.
