A 38-year-old man from Assam, Partha Pratim Bora, was arrested by Chennai police for his involvement in a digital arrest scam that defrauded a retired government official of Rs 92 lakh. Bora allegedly impersonated a Mumbai police officer and falsely claimed to have “digitally arrested” the victim, pressuring him to transfer the large sum of money.

The scam came to light when the victim, a retired official, was coerced into making the payment under the pretext of an ongoing investigation. Following his arrest in Assam, Bora was brought to Chennai after securing a transit warrant. He was produced before the XIth Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet and remanded to judicial custody. Bora is currently being held at the Central Prison in Puzhal.

The case highlights the growing concerns over digital fraud and the increasing use of such tactics to deceive and exploit individuals across the country.
