Agartala, November 21, 2024: In a solemn ceremony held at MBB Airport in Agartala on Wednesday afternoon, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha paid his last respects to Subhankar Bhowmik, a brave son of the Indian Army who tragically lost his life in an avalanche in Siachen, Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of all possible support from the state government. He also announced a financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the martyr’s family.
The body of Subhankar Bhowmik, wrapped in the tricolour, arrived at MBB Airport with full state honors. The Indian Army had prepared a dignified tribute to the fallen soldier at the airport premises. Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and other high-ranking officials of the state administration were present to pay their respects. The Governor and the Chief Minister, along with other dignitaries, placed wreaths on the martyr’s body in a gesture of deep reverence.
“Our state’s brave son Subhankar Bhowmik made the ultimate sacrifice after a terrible avalanche in Siachen on Monday night,” Chief Minister Saha told the media. “Unfortunately, the incident happened at night, making an immediate rescue operation impossible. He was found the next morning, but by then he had already been martyred. This incident is deeply painful.”
The Chief Minister highlighted the personal and collective loss felt by the community, noting that Subhankar Bhowmik is survived by his wife and daughter, along with other relatives. “The brave martyr Subhankar Bhowmik sacrificed his life while protecting the country. The state government will provide all necessary assistance to his bereaved family. In addition, I myself will extend my personal assistance to them,” he added.
The demise of Subhankar Bhowmik has cast a shadow of grief over the Sadar area of Amarpur subdivision, where his family resides. The community mourns the loss of a courageous soldier who laid down his life in the line of duty.
