Guwahati, Nov 23: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has successfully retained the Behali assembly seat in Assam following the bypolls held on Saturday. BJP candidate Diganta Ghatowal defeated his closest rival, Congress’s Jayanta Bora, by a margin of 9,051 votes.
Ghatowal received 50,947 votes, while Bora secured 41,896 votes. Other candidates in the race, Lakhikanta Kurmi of CPI(ML)-L and Ananta Gogoi of AAP, failed to gain significant support and lost their deposits.
