Shillong, Nov 23: Mehtab Chandee Sangma, wife of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, is leading in the Gambegre bypoll in West Garo Hills district. Initial counting results on Saturday show Mehtab, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, ahead with approximately 3,400 votes, leading her closest rival, Sadhiarani M Sangma of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), by around 1,000 votes.

BJP candidate Bernard Marak is trailing with 151 votes, while Independents Jerry and Sengkrabirth have garnered 264 and 37 votes, respectively. The counting is ongoing, with Mehtab holding a significant lead.
