Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Deopahar archaeological site in Numaligarh, Golaghat district, on Wednesday, where he instructed the District Commissioner to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for its preservation and development.
The Deopahar site, believed to date back to the 10th or 11th century AD, features the remnants of a stone temple adorned with intricate carvings of Mahadev’s Shivalinga and scenes from the Ramayana. These artefacts highlight the region’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
During his visit, CM Sarma emphasized the site’s significance as a symbol of Assam’s ancient Sanatan civilization and architectural prowess. He assured that the state government would take necessary measures to protect and enhance the site for future generations.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Member of Parliament Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, the District Commissioner of Golaghat, and other senior government officials. The site, nestled in a picturesque setting of hills and forests, continues to attract visitors due to its historical and natural beauty.
