Manipur Police arrested five cadres of banned insurgent groups during multiple operations aimed at curbing extortion and illegal activities in the state.
One active cadre of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), identified as Huidrom Priyokumar Singh (37), was apprehended from Imphal West District. According to the police, he was involved in extortion activities targeting shops in the Imphal area on Friday.
In a separate operation, an active member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Ningon Macha group, identified as Sangomshumpham Warish alias Chingnungakpa (25), was arrested from Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi Salam Makok in Thoubal District. Security forces recovered a .32 pistol with a magazine and three live rounds, a black holster, five 9mm live rounds, and a four-wheeler from his possession.
Three active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG) were apprehended during a coordinated operation on Thursday. The individuals were identified as Chongtham Shyamchandra Singh alias Sanajaoba alias Malemsana (23) from Imphal West District, and Maibam Suraj Khan (32) and Boghimayum Sahid Khan (30) from Imphal East District. The trio was involved in extortion and illegal possession of arms. Recovered items included three 5.56 mm INSAS live rounds and one empty case of .32 ammunition.
In addition, security forces conducted search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During these operations, various arms and ammunition were seized from S. Mongpi ridges in Kangpokpi District. Recovered items included one .303 rifle, one 9mm pistol (made in China), two SBBL guns, one 5.56 mm INSAS LMG magazine, two hand grenades, two detonators, 16 live rounds of ammunition, three tear smoke grenades, two tear smoke shells, one grenade (WP ammunition), one long-range mortar pump, and a Baofeng wireless set.
