A committee constituted by the Manipur High Court to investigate the disappearance of Laishram Kamal Babu conducted a spot enquiry and verification at the Leimakhong Army Camp on Friday. The 56-year-old man went missing from the camp on November 25, sparking concern and legal action.

The committee comprises Mahesh Choudhory, District Magistrate of Kangpokpi district; Manoj Prabhakar, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi district; Ch. Hefa, SDC Kangpokpi; Shivakanta, Superintendent of Police, Imphal West; and the Commanding Officer of the 57 Mountain Division Signal Regiment.

Following the spot verification, the committee met with the family members of the missing man to gather additional information and discuss the ongoing investigation.

The High Court had constituted the committee on December 3 to determine whether Kamalbabu was abducted within the camp or left voluntarily. The court also emphasized the importance of the family’s cooperation, directing them to provide any relevant materials or records in their possession.

The District Magistrate, as the head of the committee, has been instructed to serve notices to the petitioner and family members for their appearance during the enquiry process. The committee is required to submit its findings to the High Court by December 11, the date of the next hearing.
