Leaders of the INDIA Bloc, Manipur, staged a sit-in demonstration today at Jantar Mantar, demanding urgent action to restore peace and normalcy in the violence-stricken state. The protest sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s lack of response, accusing him of ignoring the crisis that has gripped Manipur for the past 19 months.

The INDIA Bloc highlighted the devastating impact of the prolonged unrest, which has led to numerous deaths, widespread destruction of property, and deep divisions within the community. They condemned the BJP-led government’s inaction, calling it a failure of the “double-engine government” to address the state’s escalating crisis.

A central demand of the protest was for PM Modi to visit Manipur, a step they see as crucial to acknowledging the severity of the situation and initiating reconciliation efforts. “In nearly two years of unrest, the Prime Minister has not once visited the state nor expressed concern over the fresh wave of violence. He must be held accountable,” stated a leader from the bloc.

The INDIA Bloc reaffirmed its commitment to fighting for Manipur until peace, unity, and justice are restored. The protestors vowed to continue their demonstrations and advocacy, urging immediate government intervention to rebuild trust and ensure the state’s future stability.

Congress leaders and MP Shashi Tharoor, Gaurav Gogoi, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, CPI leader D.Raja, Meghalaya MP Salena A Sangma, Former Manipur CM Okram Ibobi, MPCC President Keisham Meghachandra and various leaders from INDIA Bloc attended the sit-in-protest.
