Agartala, December 11, 2024: In a successful anti-drug operation, the Tripura police recovered approximately 8.4 kg of dried cannabis and arrested two women based on a secret tip-off. The market value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be Rs 1.50 lakh, according to OC Rana Chatterjee of East Agartala police station.

OC Chatterjee reported that the police received information about individuals smuggling cannabis through the Jogendranagar railway station. A team led by East Agartala female inspector Kamla Mura Singh, Narayan Dey and College Tilla outpost OC Shyamal Debnath was formed to search the station area.

During the operation, the team recovered 15 packets of dried ganja from Bihar residents Putul Devi and Sangeeta Devi Mandal. The suspects were arrested and taken to East Agartala police station for further investigation.

“The estimated market value of the recovered cannabis is Rs 1.50 lakh,” stated OC Chatterjee. He also highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating drug smuggling via railway routes. “Marijuana and other narcotics are being smuggled into other states with ease. Sometimes the police catch them, and sometimes the smugglers succeed,” he added.

The operation has been praised for its efficiency, showcasing the dedication of the East Agartala police in tackling drug-related crimes.
