Agartala, December 12, 2024: In a pivotal meeting at Eden Lodge, Jampui Hill, Tripura, leaders of the Mizo Convention engaged with Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury to explore transformative proposals for enhancing tourism in the region. The meeting also saw the presence of UK Chakma, IAS, Secretary of the Tourism Department focused on strategic initiatives to unlock the tourism potential of Jampui Hill.
Jampui Hill is the highest hill range, located about 200 km from Agartala in Tripura and bordering Mizoram. Known as the “permanent seat of eternal spring,” this picturesque destination, at an altitude of 3,000 feet, offers a rare blend of natural beauty and serene experiences. During this season, the hill is often shrouded in clouds, creating a magical ambiance for visitors.
Highlights of the proposals included the construction of a skywalk, development of trekking routes, creation of an eco-park, promotion of Thaidawr Tlâng (Betlingchhip) as a nature reserve, and the redevelopment of the Tlaksih paragliding site. BC Nunga, Chairman of the BAC, Jampui Hill RD Block, accompanied the Mizo leaders and shared valuable insights during the discussions.
Minister Chowdhury praised the community-driven approach, emphasizing the importance of eco-friendly and sustainable tourism. “These initiatives have the potential to transform Jampui Hill into a premier tourist destination while empowering local communities,” he stated. He invited the delegation to visit his office post-Christmas for further deliberations on the execution of these projects.
The Mizo leaders expressed optimism about the proposals, reflecting on the recent success of the Tourism Promo Fest held at Vanghmun Playground, Jampui Hill. They underscored the importance of balancing economic development with environmental preservation and cultural promotion.
Once implemented, these projects aim to position Jampui Hill as a beacon of sustainable tourism, attracting nature enthusiasts and adventurers while preserving its ecological and cultural essence.
