Aizawl, Dec 12: Over 2,900 households in Mizoram have applied for the installation of rooftop solar plants under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY), according to the state’s Power and Electricity Minister, F. Rodingliana. As of December 5, a total of 2,990 applications have been received, with 554 already approved for the installation of solar panels.
Launched in February 2024, the PM-SGMBY scheme aims to install rooftop solar panels in 1 crore homes across India by 2027. The scheme encourages the use of renewable energy and provides free electricity to households. In Mizoram, the government has already facilitated the installation of 54 systems, generating a total of 0.19 MW of solar power.
Minister Rodingliana further stated that subsidies worth over Rs 19 lakh have been granted to 23 households so far, and the state government has earmarked Rs 4 crore for the scheme. The initiative offers subsidies ranging from Rs 45,000 to Rs 1.65 lakh for installations between 1 to 10 kilowatts.
