Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday laid the foundation for Jorhat’s ₹220 crore 24×7 water supply project, marking a major step forward in the city’s infrastructure development. The project, aimed at providing uninterrupted clean water to residents, will source water from the Brahmaputra River and is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.

The project is being funded jointly by the Government of India and the Government of Assam, with ₹50 crore from the central government and ₹170 crore from the state. Dr. Sarma highlighted that the fully automated system will monitor and resolve issues such as water pressure fluctuations and pipe leakages in real-time, ensuring a consistent and reliable water supply.

This initiative reflects the state’s dedication to modernizing urban infrastructure and improving public utilities, and is expected to serve as a model for similar projects across Assam once completed.
