Agartala, December 13, 2024: The tea industry, once in decline, is experiencing a revival under the current government. The Tripura government has set ambitious goals to financially enrich the state through the development of this industry. This was emphasized by Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma at a tea buyer-seller meet held at a hotel in Agartala today.
Minister Chakma highlighted the historical neglect of the tea industry in Tripura. “For a long time, the tea industry has not been given the importance it deserves. This meet, organized by the Tea Development Corporation, is a significant step towards changing that,” she said. The event marked the first tea buyer-seller meet initiated by the corporation, signaling a renewed focus on the industry.
“The Tripura government is committed to advancing the tea industry, but we need the support of investors to achieve our goals,” Chakma stated. She underscored the government’s vision to transform the tea industry into a major economic driver for the state. “The tea industry, which had been in a state of decline, has been given a new direction during the current government. We must work towards financially enriching the state through the development of this industry. This requires the all-out cooperation of all stakeholders,” she added.
The event saw the presence of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Chairman Samir Ghosh, Managing Director Manik Lal Das and representatives from the Indian Tea Association and Indian Auction Association. Their participation underscored the collaborative effort needed to rejuvenate the tea industry.
Chairman Ghosh expressed optimism about the future of Tripura’s tea industry. “With the government’s support and the involvement of investors, we can achieve significant growth. This meet is just the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at revitalizing the industry,” he said.
Managing Director Manik Lal Das echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning and investment. “We are focused on creating a sustainable and profitable tea industry in Tripura. The collaboration between the government, investors, and industry stakeholders is crucial for this transformation,” he remarked.
The tea buyer-seller meet provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration, setting the stage for future developments in Tripura’s tea industry. The government’s proactive approach and the commitment of industry leaders signal a promising future for the state’s tea sector.
