Itanagar, Dec 16: Hundreds of villagers from Parong in Siang district protested on Sunday against the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for conducting preparatory studies for the 11,000 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project.

The demonstrators raised concerns over the dam’s socio-environmental impacts, including displacement, loss of ancestral lands, and threats to local biodiversity. They accused the government of violating the rights of indigenous communities and demanded the immediate withdrawal of security forces and suspension of the project. The protest highlights growing opposition to the proposed dam among local residents.
