Guwahati, Dec 18: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a notice to the Centre and relevant authorities over the declining population of feral horses in Assam’s Dibru-Saikhowa National Park. The notice follows a suo motu case taken by the NGT, addressing the critically endangered status of these horses, which are found only in this park.
In its order on December 16, NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel stressed the urgent need for intervention to prevent the extinction of the feral horses. These wild horses, believed to be descendants of domesticated breeds, roam freely in the park. The tribunal has called for immediate conservation measures to protect this rare species.
