Dimapur, Dec 18: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio officially inaugurated the newly renovated Dimapur Town Hall on December 17, 2024, after an extensive Rs 19.9 crore makeover. Originally built in the mid-1980s, the 400-seater facility now features a modern façade, upgraded interiors with reclining chairs, central air conditioning, an advanced sound system, a digital projector, and newly renovated washrooms.
The renovation was primarily funded through the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, which contributed Rs 15.73 crore, with an additional Rs 2 crore provided by the state government. Although the project faced delays due to redesigning the façade and necessary structural adjustments, it was completed six months beyond the initial timeline.
At the inauguration, CM Rio commended the high-quality work, noting that the Town Hall now meets both national and international standards. He also revealed that the initial plan to demolish the building was scrapped after experts confirmed its stability, making the renovation a more cost-effective approach.
To ensure the long-term maintenance of the facility, Rio proposed the formation of a management committee, to be led by the Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN), with local representatives from civil society organizations and the municipal council.
Emphasizing the importance of upgrading public infrastructure, Rio stated that the renovation of Dimapur Town Hall is a significant step forward in improving facilities for the people of Dimapur and Nagaland.
