The Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Department, seized a massive consignment of smuggled foreign cigarettes in Tripura’s Dhalai District. The operation led to the interception of 270 cartons, containing approximately 25 lakh cigarette sticks, valued at Rs 2.6 crore in the international market.

The contraband was found in a truck, and one individual was arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt. The seized items and the arrested person were handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This seizure follows another successful operation by Assam Rifles in Mizoram’s Champhai district, where 77 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 1.1 crore were recovered. The ongoing operations highlight the determined efforts of security forces to curb illegal smuggling activities in the Northeast region.
