The Congress Party on Saturday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for traveling to Kuwait while the people of Manipur continue to suffer from ongoing ethnic violence. Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Kuwait to strengthen bilateral relations in defense and trade.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh mocked the Prime Minister’s absence from the crisis-hit state, posting on social media, “Such is their fate, As Mr. Modi refuses to find a date, The people of Manipur continue to wait, While the Frequent Flyer PM is off to Kuwait.”
The Congress has repeatedly urged Modi to visit Manipur, arguing that his presence could help restore peace and stability. Ethnic violence in Manipur, which erupted on May 3, 2023, has claimed over 220 lives, primarily from the Meitei and Kuki communities, as well as security personnel.
