NEC Plays Crucial Role in Regional Development, Says Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu

Agartala, December 21, 2024: The 72nd Plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at Pragya Bhavan on Saturday served as a crucial platform to assess the progress of the region and plan for its future prosperity. Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu emphasized the council’s significant role in addressing regional challenges, advancing connectivity, promoting sustainable development and fostering social equity.

“The North Eastern Regional Council is playing an important role in planning for the development of the region and increasing mutual cooperation among the eight states,” Governor Nallu stated. He highlighted the council’s efforts in enhancing regional collaboration and addressing common issues.

Governor Nallu also praised Tripura’s contributions to various sectors, including agriculture, industry expansion, tribal welfare, and information technology. “Tripura has made outstanding progress in multiple sectors. This is not only a reflection of policy reforms but also aligns with the needs of the people of Tripura,” he said. He further noted that Tripura serves as the gateway to South East Asia, making the implementation of the Strategic East Policy essential. “More national highway connectivity is needed for the economic and overall development of this region,” he added.

The Governor stressed the importance of security and surveillance at the international border and advocated for special opportunities for the youth of the North Eastern region in the army and police. “Special training is needed to increase the physical capacity of the youth to make them competent,” he emphasized.

Addressing the issue of essential commodities, Governor Nallu called for an increase in the stock from 90 days to 180 days to mitigate problems caused by natural disasters like floods and road closures. He also urged for strict action against drug trafficking and drug abuse, highlighting the need for comprehensive initiatives to combat these issues.

Furthermore, the Governor emphasized the importance of enhancing air services in Tripura to promote the tourism industry and increase opportunities for medical tourism. “Improving air connectivity will significantly boost tourism and medical tourism in the region,” he remarked.

The plenary session highlighted the collective efforts required to drive the North Eastern region towards sustainable development and prosperity, with Governor Nallu’s address highlighting the key areas of focus for the future.
