Aizawl, Dec 25: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Gen. (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.), as the new Governor of Mizoram. The announcement was made on Tuesday evening.
In a related development, Hari Babu Kambhampati, the outgoing Governor of Mizoram, has been reassigned to the role of Governor of Odisha, succeeding Raghubar Das, whose resignation was accepted by the President.
Gen. (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, born on May 10, 1951, is a former Chief of Army Staff of India. After retiring from the military, he entered politics and was elected as a Member of Parliament for Ghaziabad in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Throughout his political career, Gen. Singh has held several key ministerial positions, including Minister of State for External Affairs, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation. In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second term, he also served as Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.
