Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that the state was on a positive path of development and good governance before the violence erupted on May 3, 2023. He highlighted that the state had successfully hosted key national and international events, such as G-20 meetings, the Miss India competition, and a tri-nation football tournament, showcasing Manipur’s growing prominence.

Speaking at the Good Governance Day event held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Singh lauded government officials, including the Chief Secretary, for their efforts in achieving the goals of good governance. The event, observed on the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was introduced in 2014 under the first Modi government to promote effective governance.

Reflecting on his government’s tenure since 2017, Singh noted the law-and-order challenges when his administration first took office. He reiterated his commitment to improving governance and welfare through various initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of Manipur’s people.
