Agartala, December 26, 2024: A stone pelting incident took place on the Tripura Sundari Express (train No-14620 UP) at Nadiapur-Dharmanagar section on Wednesday last, resulting in significant damage to one of the coach windows. The incident was reported by a passenger as the train arrived at Dharmanagar station (DMR) at platform No-01 around 18:58 hrs.
According to HC Abhijit Kakati, who was on duty during the “C” shift from 14:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs, the passenger alerted them to the stone-throwing incident that damaged the window glass of coach No-NR LWS 196448. No injuries were reported among the passengers. Upon receiving the report, the matter was confirmed by the on-duty escort party, and sources were engaged to collect facts and apprehend the culprits.
Immediately, ASI B. Saha, HC A. Kakati, and CT Anjan Paul of RPF/DMR rushed to the spot and found two individuals sitting on the railway track. Upon seeing the police, the individuals attempted to flee but were apprehended. The suspects were identified as Dibakar Sinha (27), son of Sri Krishna Kanta Sinha from East Hurua, and Vaskar Banerjee (27), son of Mantu Banerjee from Rajbari Mandabpara.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to throwing stones at the train while grazing near the railway track. The individuals were taken into RPF custody at around 20:00 hrs and brought to the RPF/POST/Dharmanagar for further legal action after verifying their identities.
HC Abhijit Kakati lodged a written complaint before IPF/DMR, leading to the registration of a case at RPF/POST/DMR (case No.213/2024, dated 25.12.24) under sections 154 and 147 of the Railway Act 1989. The case has been endorsed to ASI B. Saha for further inquiry and to submit a report. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and swift action by law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of passengers and railway property.
