The Meghalaya government has issued tenders for the Rs 27.5 crore Umngot riverfront development project in Dawki, with plans for completion within two years. The project will include the construction of pathways, a pedestrian bridge, amenity buildings, and utility structures, aimed at boosting tourism and infrastructure in the region.

The announcement of this project comes amid ongoing delays in the repair of the Shillong-Dawki road, which has been hampered by adverse weather conditions. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) is overseeing the roadwork, which includes three major road development packages—Umshyrpi Bridge to Upper Shillong, Mylliem to Pynursla, and Lower Pynursla to Dawki.

While some sections of the road are progressing, the final stretch of the Shillong-Dawki road and the Dawki bridge construction remain incomplete. Once completed, the road will feature four lanes, improving regional connectivity.
