Agartala, December 30, 2024: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken a significant step towards ensuring railway safety by involving local communities in innovative measures to prevent cattle collisions on tracks. In a pioneering initiative, the residents of Yeabra village in Dima Hasao district, Assam, collaborated with the railways to erect bamboo barricades on both sides of the track near railway km no. 72, between Daotuhaja and Wadrengdisa stations under the Lumding Division.

This effort, spearheaded by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the leadership of the Inspector of Police Force (IPF) team of NFR, showcases the power of community participation. The fencing project was made possible through sustained awareness campaigns and meetings organized by the RPF, which inspired villagers to voluntarily take up the task at their own expense.

Highlighting the success of the initiative, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, stated in a press communiqué on Monday, “This is a shining example of how community involvement can contribute to enhancing safety on our railway network. The dedication of the people of Yeabra village reflects the strong bond between the railways and local communities.”

Sharma emphasized that unauthorized crossings and cattle trespassing are significant challenges in railway operations. “The collaborative effort in Yeabra village not only addresses these safety concerns but also sets a benchmark for other regions to follow. We urge other villages along our network to replicate this model to improve the safety and efficiency of train operations,” he added.

This initiative highlights the importance of community policing and trust-building between the railways and local populations. By fostering such partnerships, the NFR continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring safety and promoting innovative, community-driven solutions.
